Er sei sich 'vorlaufig noch ein Ratsel', notiert der Held zu Beginn in sein Tagebuch. 'Vielleicht steckt ein ganz, ganz gemeiner Mensch in mir. Vielleicht aber besitze ich aristokratische Adern. Ich weiss es nicht. Aber das Eine weiss ich bestimmt: Ich werde eine reizende, kugelrunde Null im spateren Leben sein.'
