Die vorliegende Arbeit widerlegt dieses Urteil auf ganzer Linie: sie zeigt sich begeistert von dieser spektakul�ren Filmform und entwickelt zugleich eine reflexive Perspektive, die den film�sthetischen Strategien Rechnung tr�gt und Hollywood als ein luzides Beobachtungsmedium von Globalisierungswissen vorstellt. Das Buch geht der Frage nach, wie im Bereich der popul�rkulturellen Produktion Globalisierungsdynamiken bild�sthetisch und narrativ verarbeitet werden. Anhand von drei exemplarischen Beitr�gen des zeitgen�ssischen Spionage-, Kriegs- und Katastrophenfilms werden Leitfragen der kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Globalisierungsforschung untersucht: Fragen nach der kulturellen Identit�t, der Nation und der Bedeutung nationalstaatlicher Grenzen sowie geopolitische Konfliktlagen und weltweite Epidemien werden dazu mit den spezifisch filmischen Symbolisierungsleistungen und kinematografischen Wirkungspotenzialen des zeitgen�ssischen Hollywood-Kinos in Beziehung gesetzt. Popul�re Semantiken, so die Schlussfolgerung, besitzen ein hochreflexives Problembewusstsein f�r Folgen und Effekte von Globalisierungsprozessen, die vor allem als Infragestellung bisher vertrauter Muster der Welt- und Wirklichkeitsdeutung artikuliert werden.
