Alexander von Humbold, 1803 In dieser Tagebuchnotiz des ber�hmten deutschen Naturforschers spiegelt sich die Grundlage der vorliegenden Arbeit, eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der vorherrschenden Form au�ereurop�ischer Kolonien und die Frage nach einer generellen Legitimit�t einer solchen kolonialen Machtaus�bung wider, wie sie im 18. Jahrhundert im Kreise einflussreicher Gelehrter verst�rkt zum Ausdruck kam. Eine solche, vielfach formulierte und auf unterschiedlichsten theoretischen Ans�tzen basierende Kolonialismuskritik wurde insbesondere im Zuge der Aufkl�rung wiederholt Thema moralphilosophischer Ver�ffentlichungen und Gegenstand intellektueller Diskurse. Nahezu alle gro�en Philosophen jener Zeit widmeten ihre Aufmerksamkeit in unterschiedlichem Ausma� und aus moralischen, �konomischen aber auch rationalen Motiven dem Versuch, die au�ereurop�ische koloniale Welt zu beurteilen und letztlich mit dem Aufbau und der Funktionsweise des europ�ischen Staatensystems in Verbindung zu bringen. Da Gro�britannien zu jener Zeit die f�hrende Rolle innerhalb dieses Staatensystems einnahm und sich als Britisches Weltreich (engl.: British Empire) Mitte des Jahrhunderts als gr��te Kolonialmacht in Amerika etablierte, bieten insbesondere britische Philosophen und Gelehrte die M�glichkeit einer Untersuchung aufgekl�rter Kolonialismuskrit
