La malaria es una de las enfermedades infecciosas m�s devastadoras de todo el mundo. Los progresos de la terapia con genes y c�lulas en las diferentes �reas de las Ciencias M�dicas, permiten explorar nuevas estrategias, mediante la introducci�n de genes codificantes para la producci�n de alguna prote�na que pueda adquirir, bloquear, restaurar o amplificar alguna funci�n celular, determinada fase de ciclo o la muerte celular. En esta obra, se prueba una estrategia de terapia g�nica en un modelo experimental murino de malaria, basado en el trasplante de c�lulas modificadas gen�ticamente para la sobreexpresi�n de la prote�na Bcl-2. Los hallazgos encontrados, permiten soportar la hip�tesis de utilizar una estrategia de este tipo en un modelo de malaria con una reducci�n transitoria de la parasitemia, la preservaci�n de la arquitectura espl�nica y el aumento de la supervivencia celular in vitro, a�n en condiciones de estr�s oxidativo. Lo anterior representa una propuesta novedosa a ser considerada en la futura terap�utica antipal�dica.
