Seit 1833 dokumentiert die Gesellschaft f�r Schleswig-Holsteinische Geschichte (GSHG) regionale, gesellschaftliche und politische Ver�nderungen, von denen dieser �lteste Geschichtsverein Schleswig-Holsteins selbst nicht ausgenommen blieb. Die R�ckwirkungen der politischen Umbr�che der Jahre 1918/19 und 1933 auf die Arbeit der GSHG und auf das Selbstverst�ndnis ihrer f�hrenden Mitglieder sowie die Frage, ob es gelang, die wissenschaftliche und publizistische T�tigkeit im Zeitraum von 1918 bis 1945 von politischer Einflussnahme freizuhalten, stehen im Fokus dieser Studie. Damit stellt sie nicht nur die erste Untersuchung zur T�tigkeit der GSHG in der Zeit der Weimarer Republik und des Nationalsozialismus dar, sondern liefert zugleich einen Beitrag zur Debatte um das Wirken der deutschen Historiker in dieser Zeit, speziell auf dem Feld der au�eruniversit�ren Institutionen.
