Diese Gewichtsverteilung erschien mir bei der mir zur Verf�gung stehenden relativ begrenzten Seitenzahl angemessen, weil die Theorie der vollst�ndigen Konkurrenz f�r das Verst�ndnis der Rolle der Preise in einer Wirtschaft von gro�er Bedeutung ist. Sie ist bis jetzt das einzige weitgehend ausgearbeitete preis theoretische Modell einer gesamten Volkswirtschaft; sie bildet das Ger�st verschiedener Teildisziplinen der theoretischen National�konomie und der Wirtschaftspolitik; im �brigen ist die Theorie der vollst�ndigen Konkurrenz wesentlich allgemeiner als vielfach angenommen wird, denn in ihren Grund z�gen ist sie unabh�ngig davon, ob sich, abgesehen von der Arbeit, die Pro duktionsfaktoren einer Wirtschaft ganz, teilweise oder �berhaupt nicht in Privateigentum befinden. Die hier behandelten Theorien lassen sich ohne Anwendung von Mathematik weder sauber noch wirklich verst�ndlich darstellen. Um die mathematischen Anforderungen auf ein Mindestma� zu beschr�nken, habe ich alles so ein gerichtet, da� man sich mit durchschnittlichen Schulkenntnissen, insbesondere auf dem Gebiete der elementaren Differentialrechnung, zurechtfinden kann. Diese Einschr�nkung erlaubte allerdings nur eine ausf�hrliche Behandlung statischer Theorien, und zwar lediglich f�r zwei oder drei G�ter, nicht f�r den allgemeinen Fall beliebig vieler G�ter und ohne die komplizierteren Beweise. Dynamische �berlegungen, wie z. B. Stabilit�tsbetrachtungen oder wie die Theorien wirtschaftlicher Planungen im Zeitverlauf und damit insbesondere die Erkl�rungen des Zinses sind alsoausgeschlossen worden.
