Wissenschaftliche Hebraistik und Hebraisch als akademisches Unterrichtsfach haben sich in den letzten Jahren zusehends auseinanderentwickelt. Nirgendwo sonst in der Theologie ist die vielbeschworene Einheit von Forschung und Lehre so wenig realisiert wie hier: Nicht nur Studierende, auch Professoren fur Altes Testament, die Hebraisch noch nach Altvater-Sitte in einem als Propadeutikum angelegten Sprachkurs erlernt haben, stehen dem linguistisch-philologisch orientierten Seitenzweig der alttestamentlichen Wissenschaft mit seinen komplexen Fragestellungen oftmals ratlos gegenuber. Das vorliegende Buch ist ein Lehrbuch, aber nicht eines, das einmal mehr die in vielen anderen Lehrbuchern dargebotenen Fakten in neuer Anordnung bringt. Es ist vielmehr eine wissenschaftliche Einfuhrung. Das bedeutet: den Lesern werden nicht nur die fertigen Problemlosungen (wie z. B. Konjugationstabellen, Graphiken zur Darstellung des Tempussystems) geboten, sie werden parallel dazu argumentativ in die Problemstellungen der wissenschaftlichen Hebraistik eingefuhrt. Hebraisch wird nicht als Sprache, sondern als die mehrstufige Rekonstruktion einer toten Sprache vorgefuhrt, wobei der Leser selbst als letztes Glied in den Rekonstruktionsprozess einbezogen wird. Das geschieht nicht zuletzt durch die konsequente Anwendung noetischer Kategorien zur Funktionsbestimmung biblisch-hebraischer sprachlicher Phanomene, anhand derer die Leser die angebotenen Problemlosungen kritisch uberprufen konnen. Dieses Konzept erlaubte es auch, ein Kapitel uber das Biblische Aramaisch anzufugen, was ein Novum auf dem Markt der Hebraisch-Bucher darstellt: Wer die sprachwissenschaftlichen Grundlagen im hebraischen Hauptteil verstanden hat, kann nach dem Studium dieses Kapitels das ganze Alte Testament sprachlich analysieren.
