Gerade mit Blick auf Italien, das Kernland der Villenkultur, st�tzte sich das Bild dieser Einrichtungen lange Jahrzehnte aber auf wenige, gut bekannte Beispiele. Vor diesem Hintergrund unternimmt der Autor eine systematische Zusammenstellung und Analyse der mittlerweile recht zahlreichen Reste landwirtschaftlich genutzter Villen im republikanischen und fr�hkaiserzeitlichen Mittelitalien. Die Untersuchung fokussiert dabei Installationen zur Verarbeitung von Wein, Oliven und Getreide, den sog. cash crops der r�mischen Agrarwirtschaft. Im Zentrum steht die Frage der r�umlichen Organisation der landwirtschaftlichen Produktionsanlagen und ihr Verh�ltnis zum �brigen Villengeb�ude - allen voran den teils aufwendigen Wohnarealen. Die vergleichende Betrachtung der Anlagen offenbart bereits f�r die Fr�hphase der Villenwirtschaft regional spezifische Konzepte in der Ausstattung und r�umlichen Organisation der Landg�ter. Die detaillierte Analyse dieser unterschiedlichen Konzepte erlaubt R�ckschl�sse auf Prozesse des Technologietransfers, aber auch auf regionale Akteure und Wirtschaftsstrategien, die die Auspr�gung der Villenwirtschaft in Mittelitalien entscheidend beeinflusst haben.
