Il faut donc consid�rer La Vie sans fards comme une tentative de parler vrai, de rejeter les mythes et les id�alisations flatteuses et faciles. C'est aussi une tentative de d�crire la naissance d'une vocation myst�rieuse qui est celle de l'�crivain. Est-ce vraiment un m�tier ? Y gagne-t-on sa vie ? Pourquoi inventer des existences, pourquoi inventer des personnages sans rapport direct avec la r�alit� ? Une existence ne p�se-t-elle pas d'un poids d�j� trop lourd sur les �paules de celui ou celle qui la subit ? La Vie sans fards est peut-�tre le plus universel de mes livres. J'emploie ce mot universel � dessein bien qu'il d�plaise fortement � certains. En d�pit du contexte tr�s pr�cis et des r�f�rences locales, il ne s'agit pas seulement d'une Guadeloup�enne tentant de d�couvrir son identit� en Afrique. Il s'agit d'abord et avant tout d'une femmeaux prises avec les difficult�s de la vie. Elle est confront�e � ce choix capital et toujours actuel: �tre m�re ou exister pour soi seule. Je pense que La Vie sans fards est surtout la r�flexion d'un �tre humain cherchant � se r�aliser pleinement.
