L'�tranger observe: pourquoi madame Perrin porte-t-elle des lunettes noires ? Mademoiselle Millotte dit que c'est parce que son mari couche avec madame Charbonnier. Pourquoi la fille des Charbonier s'est-elle jet�e par la fen�tre ? Pourquoi Jean Perrin s'est-il fait rosser dans les bois ? Pourquoi le g�n�ral dit-il � mein Herr � ? Pourquoi Madamoiselle Millotte est-elle tu�e ? Peu � peu le narrateur est mis au fait des drames du pass� (on accuse le p�re du maire d'avoir tu� un jeune maquisard anglais et vol� les billets qu'il transportait), du pr�sent (les affaires immobili�res). Tout va se nouer et se d�nouer, et l'on saura pourquoi � l'�tranger � est venu chercher refuge dans un village sans histoires, en apparence...
