Celui qui r�v�le Brassens au plus vrai, � travers le regard de Gibraltar, alias Pierre Ont�niente, qui aura �t� non seulement, de tous les proches de l'artiste, l'ami par excellence, mais aussi le copain d'abord, celui qui ne l'a jamais quitt� d'une semelle du jour o� ils se sont connus, en 1943, au camp de Basdorf en Allemagne (o� les deux hommes avaient �t� enr�l�s dans le Service du travail obligatoire), jusqu'� celui de la mort de Brassens, le 29 octobre 1981. Et m�me au-del�, puisque Pierre Ont�niente a continu� d'assurer une sorte de pr�sence, de m�moire vivante de l'artiste. Jusqu'ici, par discr�tion et mod�stie, Gibraltar n'avait t�moign� que de mani�re fragmentaire et occasionnelle, d'un livre ou d'un journal � l'autre. Cette fois, vingt-cinq ans apr�s la mort de son ami, il afini par accepter de livrer son Brassens, un Brassens familier voire intime, que l'on d�couvre ou red�couvre, de S�te � Basdorf, de l'anonymat � la c�l�brit�, de l'Olympia � Bobino. Son secr�taire assiste en t�moin privil�gi� � la naissance de ses chansons, l'accompagne en tourn�e, conduit sa voiture, r�pond au courrier et au t�l�phone, g�re ses �ditions, bref le d�charge des soucis pratiques et aide ainsi � la cr�ation d'une oeuvre consid�rable. Jacques Vassal, qui a recueilli ce t�moignage, replace chaque anecdote, chaque souvenir dans le contexte de la carri�re du chanteur, et celle-ci dans l'Histoire tout court. Le livre comporte aussi une s�rie de documents in�dits pr�t�s par Gibraltar, compl�tant le caract�re de r�f�rence de cette captivante lecture.
