Day Leitao has a gift for fantasy writing and this book is a delight. I will love giving it to my daughters when they are the right age, not only to enjoy its amazing plot, but to read a great heroine. A real heroine. Zora has abilities that could be considered unusual for a woman. But she is not just any woman, she is a woman from the Dark Valley, and in the Valley everyone learns to fight since they can walk. They learn about potions and enchantments for their weapons. They train and exercise as women in other parts of the kingdom would not. She's not that kind of chosen one, invincible and super powerful. She knows that she is not the strongest and that she has to be smart if she wants to win the cup.
