An age ago the world shattered and the survivors found their way of life forever changed. Out of the resulting devastation they developed a strict set of rules known as The Way Code.A thousand years later, Ellenna, a young woman from the small village of Lodenek breaks one of The Way's outdated strictures, having a child without a bondmate or permission. Her baby is forcefully taken from her and she is exiled to the more liberal Morrven, a village with high walls and trained defenders close to The Drop, a great rip in the land. Befriended and encouraged by Aleria, Morrven's healer, Ellenna discovers the art of Invocation and the binding of the Elements, commonplace before The Shattering but now extremely difficult. Whilst adapting to her new life, she waits for the opportunity to return to Lodenek and reclaim her son but Morrven has high walls and strong defences for a reason and Ellenna finds her fate tied closely to that of her adopted home. The Shattered Rainbow is the first of a four book fantasy series fantasy carrying a modern feel to the dialogue and characterisation, while still being firmly placed in a deeply believable fantasy world, as favoured by such authors like David Eddings, David Gemmell and Robert Jordan.
