Better than the movie
Has so much going for it with a climax that is so well-deserved. The development put into the four hikers between each monster sighting/attack felt perfect, and definitely set the mood for how much they were losing it in their claustrophobic and desperate surroundings. Then the antagonists (there's more than the cult this time) really come in later on in the book, and boy are they so much more fun than the drab "one of us" cultists presented in the movie. Everything is so disgustingly rendered from the main character's point of view and it's wonderful. If you liked the movie, or even if you didn't and you just love gritty supernatural horror, this is a good one.
