The Rebel T4i/EOS 650D is the latest in a long line of Rebel/XXXD series of DSLR cameras that began with the Digital Rebel/300D camera of 2003. The Rebel T4i/EOS 650D builds on the strengths of its predecessors, making it the most refined model in the series to date. The camera features some intriguing new technology: the most significant change is the Hybrid CMOS AF system that improves the speed of focus when shooting still-images and movies in Live View. It's also the first Canon DSLR that can continuously autofocus when recording movies. Sound is important to the shooting of movies, and the Rebel T4i/EOS 650D is equipped with a stereo microphone (a first for the Rebel series) as well as a jack to plug in an external microphone. The Rebel T4i/EOS 650D is also the first Canon DSLR to feature a touch-sensitive LCD. Virtually all of the camera's operations can be set using the 3in. (7.7cm) LCD rather than using the physical buttons on the camera body. This includes setting menu functions, selecting the focus point in Live View and even firing the shutter once focus has been locked. To make the use of the LCD easier, the panel is hinged and can be set in a variety of positions allowing the camera to be used overhead or down low, close to the ground, more easily.
