A spectacularly beautiful small book
This compact volume manages to be a serious study of the most glorious period of New York City skyscraper architecture (the 1920's - '30's, generally called "Art Deco") AND a lush collection of modern-day photography by the author AND the most delicious selection of brief writings about NYC in this era. That all of these gifts come in a lovely package for UNDER $20 makes it both a massive bargain and a must-have for serious students of architecture, for admirers of superb color photography of the highest order, for those who simply appreciate well-made books and--most of all--for anyone who stil gets a thrill every time he/she sees the Manhattan skyline. Bravo, Mr. Berenholtz, bravo Welcome Books. (I just purchased five copies as Christmas presents.)
