I somehow missed reading this book a half century ago when I was in school. I came across a reference to it while reading a history of Wisconsin's logging industry, where it was recommended reading.
I concur...this is a must if you want to understand the Northwoods and the people who settled it, worked it's forests, and made all of the mistakes common to human (and Mother) nature. Read it!

Come and Get It
Always a great movie. Frances Farmer, Edward Arnold, Joel McCrae and Walter Brennen all make a great cast. An Edna Ferber story, which I happen to think tranlated into the best film, showing some of the feminism of strong women and great stock characters of the damsel in distress and the hero and villain. A lot of fun.
