Strangers From the Sky: The Audio Version
Strangers From the Sky tells the story of when the Vulcans first visited Earth. The events of the story go back and forth in time and make for an intricate and interesting plot. Mr. Spock uses the Vulcan mind meld with Captain Kirk in an attempt to help the Captain with a troubling and recurring dream; with the meld, we go back in time to one of the earlier adventures involving Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell and Doctor Elizabeth Dehner (both of whom were in the 1966 original series episode Where No Man Has Gone Before). The mind meld reveals how Kirk and an accompanying landing party encounter a sorcerer who experiments with time travel. Kirk and Spock inadvertently get caught up in this experiment and end up going back to twenty-first century Earth and the time when Vulcans (hoping to avoid detection) first land on Earth. The audio book is narrated by Leonard Nimoy and George Takei (Mr. Spock and helmsman Sulu in the original series, respectively). Though this abridgement lacks the details found in the book, I found this story a good one to listen to in my car.
