I am enjoying this book so far, it is a mighty tome and will take a while to get through but it is well written, well referenced and contains all the subject matter I am currenlty interested in. I recommend it for pleasure reading as well as scholastic research. As it is a thick book, I would not call it a "pocket guide" and I would not be carrying it to and fro school each day along with many other books as students tend to do, but it is a valuable contribution to the history text genre and I'm very glad to have it in my collection.

Cool History
Too many history books are dry, not this one. Interesting and well written-should be a Western Civ text.
