I am so very happy to have embarked on the 44 Scotland Street series by Smith. I love each and every character--Alexander McCall Smith is an exqusite story teller and humanitarian...his insight into the human psyche is exquisite. I found the 5th book first and am reading my way back thru all of them--finishing up on number one now. This book on Bertie is fabulous...I love little Bertie and all of his trials with his very pretentious and over bearing mother...who cannot empathize with this child? I look forward to the 6th edition!

Hooray for McCall Smith
All of the 44 Scotland Street stories are irresistable. It's so easy to become attached to characters because they have their own charm. Very satisfying reading. Am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
