Galaxies d�crit tout d'abord les diverses morphologies et les cat�gories de galaxies existantes, permettant de mieux comprendre leur formation et leur �volution (� travers la s�quence de Hubble ou le diagramme couleur-magnitude). Il �tudie par la suite les principales propri�t�s de notre galaxie, la Voie lact�e, ainsi que celles des galaxies de type pr�coce (sph�ro�dales) ou tardif (spirales). Il analyse �galement les processus de fusion et les interactions entre galaxies, primordiaux dans la formation et l'�volution des galaxies, la formation des �toiles et la constitution des trous noirs, avant de finalement traiter de l'histoire cosmique de la formation des galaxies.
