A very good story. The only detracting factor in my opinion was the character of Wayne. His buildup took up a significant portion of the story after being introduced, only for probably the most anticlimactic yet deserved demise. It was sorta pathetic and I really couldn't believe Malfi had decided all that buildup should lead to that one very short and very dissatisfying scene. Considering this being the only climax two of his 4 main protags got, it was quite a letdown. Everything else was amazing though, characters, setting, the magic man. I found it very easy to become engrossed in this book.
Just don't let a scary and seemingly formidable antagonist that takes up a large portion of your novel go down without putting up basically any fight in a few short sentences. It's pitiful and if it weren't for that, I would have given this a 5 star rating.
