I really liked the book. It is old, but it is interesting, factual, might need updating comments, and it fits a 9 year old. This is its great strength. Whether told as a story to adults or nine year olds, it captures your interest because it links history as a story, rather than a system of dates. It is for a 9 year old because unfamiliar terms to anybody new are clarified. Ex.: "built on the river." A child thinks actually on the river.

Excellent Book!
I purchased this book recently to add to my homeschool history lessons. Both my 8 year old and 6 year old really like listening to the lessons. Compelling, humorous and fun, the writing makes the topic come alive and I find my children are retaining what they've learned. As a stand alone or combined with Susan Wise Baurer's The Story of The World, children will get an excellent overview of world history told in an engaging way. While more expensive than most children's history books, it is well worth the price! If you are looking for an overview from the Stone Age on up, this book will not disappoint.
