Portanto, parece adequado come�ar por essa assertiva. Assim como as ci�ncias naturais investigam a verdade, a ci�ncia jur�dica deve amparar sua pesquisa no estudo do objeto jur�dico (conduta regulada pelo dever-ser), mas sem negligenciar um valor essencial das rela��es intersubjetivas: a justi�a. As normas jur�dicas, em um micro-cosmo normativo das condutas sociais, t�m por escopo regular as rela��es sociais, para manter um equil�brio proporcional das diversas for�as sociais, estimulando as intera��es que produzam um sentimento de justi�a e desestimulando as que irrompem em uma amarga sensa��o de injusti�a. Mas, para entendermos bem como essas rela��es intersubjetivas ocorrem, � preciso compreender o que �, e como alcan�ar, a justi�a. Os trabalhos apresentados nesta obra s�o pesquisas realizadas por doutorandos em mestrandos na disciplina por mim ministrada, intitulada "As Teorias da Justi�a e a Prote��o dos Direitos Fundamentais", no programa de Doutorado em Direito. Nessa disciplina, s�o estudados in�meros autores, das mais diversas e antag�nicas teorias da justi�a: John Rawls, Robert Nozick, Amartya Sen, John Roemer, Rainer Forst, Axel Honneth, Brenda Frasier, Ronald Dworkin, Michael Sandel, Michael Walzer, Robert Alexy, e muitos outros. Ficou claro que ainda falta uma descri��o metodologicamente consistende e coerente da teoria geral da justi�a, considerando os diversos princ�pios e valores, culturalmente diferentes e n�o raramente antag�nicos.
