ANOTHER EDITION OF "SUDAN CIVIL WARS" John started his educational journey by learning how to write and read in the Nuer language in 1991/2. Because he was born in the Nuer land, his first language was also Nuer. If you have read the first chapters of this book carefully (Part I - II), you should have known where he comes from. Before he could go to class and learn how to read and write, he could not even think that it was possible to write the name of a person or thing on a paper. It was unbelievable for him that someone can write something and the other person can understand it. He thought one can only read what she wrote and nobody else will know what that writing is all about. He simply could not understand how it works because he never thought about an alphabet. He once asked someone, if he could be able to write his name on a sheet of paper. When they started their classes, they used his cowhide, (the same that he sleeps on as mattress) as their blackboard. The hide was pinned on a Lalop (Thou) tree so that their teacher, Kor Chol could write on it, using a piece of charcoal as a chalk. The students used the floor as their exercise books. This was how John began his journey of education. He flunked his first quiz because wherever the teacher expected him to fill the blank spaces, he put only two alphabets: " TH ". Does this predict he will become a "theologian many years later? Find out today by reading these interesting accounts: Part I - V.
