La novela polic�aca es el g�nero literario con mayor n�mero de lectores en el mundo. Sus tramas han influido decisivamente en la conformaci�n de la cultura popular, y sus personajes entra�ables forman parte ya del ideario universal. Pepe Carvalho, Sherlock Holmes, Myron Bolitar, Auguste Dupin, Ingrid Diesel, Guido Brunetti, Hannibal Lecter, Cordelia Gray, Belasco�ran, Arsenio Lupin, Nestor Burma, Ed McBain, Philip Marlowe, Tom Ripley, por mencionar solamente algunos, nos han brindado horas y horas de entretenimiento, han influido nuestra manera de pensar y nos han legado un c�mulo de frases y paradigmas caracterol�gicos, igualando en cuanto a calidad literaria a muchas de las grandes obras "serias" de las letras mundiales. Sin embargo, la abundancia de subg�neros, autores y tem�ticas que el g�nero aborda obliga a poseer un "vademecum" que permita iniciar al lector interesado en los autores "esenciales" que han forjado y enriquecido un estilo literario en constante evoluci�n."Invitaci�n a la novela polic�aca" busca ofrecer, a lo largo de dos vol�menes, una panor�mica cr�tica de algunas novelas representativas del g�nero.
