Parfois, leurs relations avec leur m�re ont �t� tendues. Leur histoire est pleine de rebondissements et d'intrigues. S'y ajoutent la vie d'une famille �cossaise qui fuit le pays et celle des fr�res et soeurs de Claudette partis pour l'Irlande avec les ma�ons Lombards pour y chercher du travail.L'auteure, Jean Lombard, est n�e et a grandi � Dublin, en Irlande. Elle a �migr� en Australie en 1968 o� elle a �pous� John Lombard, un descendant des premiers Lombards arriv�s en Irlande au 13�me si�cle. En 1989, Jean et John achet�rent et r�nov�rent une petite ferme en ruine dans un village proche de Cluny.L'histoire et la vie de ce village ainsi que les aventures des ma�ons Lombards, qui ont construit les �glises clunisiennes dans les environs, ont inspir� Jean pour �crire ces nouvelles.
