Excellent! Fantastic! Not to be missed!
Excellent! Fantastic! Not to be missed! The best book I've read in 2011. The best I've read since The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo.
Ms. Gardner is truly an artist. She paints a path first that you gladly follow. Tessa Leoni, a dedicated, trained state trooper, loving mother and happy wife seems to have committed an awful crime of killing here husband and possibly her daughter. The evidence is laid out that says she did it. Even Tessa admits to killing her husband. Still you believe in the back of your mind that surely the author would not have taken such a route. As you move deeper into the pages the author offers up a subtle hint that reassures you that Officer Leoni may at least not be guilty of everything she's been charged with. Then a bit further the author and Officer Leoni drop a bomb, figuratively and literally, and you find yourself saying "Oh, no she didnt." "No. She Couldnt have." "Surely she didnt". And then you're left with the feeling that my god she must have. By this time the author has laid in enough pieces that you start to prepare yourself - thinking perhaps that Ms.. Gardner has decided to break away from the tried and true, from the expected happy ending. Maybe this time the author is taking a new tack and is actually telling us the story of a cold blooded murderer and there will be no happy ending.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Deftly flipping the switch after you've cast hope aside, Ms. Gardner brings the real story into focus. And as you near the end you'll feel yourself leaning on the edge of your seat and chanting with the building throngs as your heart races - "Kill them"."Kill them all!", "I'll help you kill them all." - "Kill them all - that's what I would do!"
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Ms. Gardner for such an excellent, excellent story that touches the heart and pulse of every parent. You'll find yourself letting out a deep breath - not realizing that you had been holding it in. And, you'll feel a tear build. Would you be willing to lose a little piece of your humanity for your child? Even if you had to "Kill them all"? I have no doubts - hand me the 45 caliber and a shovel - I'm going for my kid.
