Harold and Maude started as Colin Higgins's master's thesis at UCLA film school before being made into the 1971 film directed by Hal Ashby. A sad and funny love story that is a coming-out tale for a young boy hiding from life and an old woman preparing to leave it. My only wish is that it had more plot points, more richness and depth, more of a good thing. It is a very small story in a short book.
