This is a book about caring that goes beyond the walls of the organized church. I admire the author's ability to touch people's lives in a non-traditional setting.

Tough, Tender and True
With stories, well told, that reveal her brave heart Braestrup tells of her widowhood and recovery, her spiritual search and calling that landed her as Chaplain to the Maine Wardens service. She learns from them, meets them in their interior places and with them searches for people lost in the Maine woods. As Chaplain her work is to comfort and care for the found and the families of those who did not survive. This is a book of adventure that affirms the good in human nature and the spiritual dimension of all life.

Good read
This book is a good read, it is a look from a woman's perspective as well as a pastor's at the harsh reality of death, life and happiness. I would highly recommend this book.

Great book!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for several reasons. This book is about Kate and her experiences as a chaplain in the Maine Warden Service. Although spiritual, she is not pious or preachy. Her ministry is very 'hands on' and she doesn't try to sugar-coat her story; she just tells it the way it happened. As a life-long Mainer, I was also very interested in her colorful descriptions of the Maine woods and wildlife. This is a great book, and I think most everyone would enjoy reading it.

A remarkable memoir
A moving and poignant book about overcoming adversity and finding peace. Braestrup's story is inspiring and well written. As someone who was not particularly religious, she finds solace and peace in helping other people handle their grief. If you are going through a tough time in your life, this book will lift you up and give you courage and strength to move forward.
