Elvis has grown up quite a bit since his earlier incarnation as World's Greatest Detective, with super cute asides (Joe Pike? Some partner---Yeah!) The tone is a lot darker, and the reader gets to understand many of Cole's demons; but also much of what makes him such a lovable character. Not so much fun as the earlier tales, but a good chance to know the character, if you've been drawn into the Cole/Pike ethos.
Will Elvis ever find out about his roots? He has to keep looking, and this is just a part of his dark journey.

WHO WAS THAT MAN?
A man, found shot in an alley, tells the officer at the scene that he is looking for his son, Elvis Cole. Minutes later, the man dies. Private Investigator Elvis Cole and his longtime partner and confidant, Joe Pike, along with LAPD Detective Carol Starkey, launch a feverish search for the dead man's identity. This is a stunning, edge-of-your-seat suspense story that leads Elvis Cole to the very thing he has always been searching for--the dark secrets of his own life. I couldn't put the book down.
