I loved this book. I always enjoy Linda Howard's work but she excelled in this one. I haven't liked her work so much since I thrilled to her Mackenzie family tales. The heroine, Blair Malory, is a former cheerleader who owns a fitness center. It all begins when Blair believes that she is being shot at and discovers that someone else was murdered. There are more occurences in the book, building suspense as Blair is plainly the target of the other attempts. The story builds from there - as she encounters a man that she previously dated.
I don't want to spoil things, so I won't tell too much of the story. It's just a wonderful tale, I recommend it highly.

Does love wait?
Chemistry has a root in most Howard books. Thus, it is not surprising that this one is chocked full of it. Undeniable chemistry draws and repels for reasons that are the same this time as they were 2 years ago when the story between the hero/heroine began and ended without so much as a candle flutter (or a fourth date). Drawn together by the same chemistry of years past and repelled with the same excuses, the Detective cannot fight the impending clash of emotions. His is an honest emotion when compiled with the truth of the "high maintenance" of the gym owner. The honesty of the couple (him fighting/giving in; her hurt/anger/acquiesence) meets the burden of a full blown story that allows for one to see real life in the story. It is the possibility of the story based in possible fact of any two people that draws and entertains throughout.

Better than the 1st
This is a prequel to Drop Dead Gorgeous Blair Malory runs a fitness center and witnesses a murder in the back parking lot of her establishment. Did they get the right woman or were they actually gunning for Blair. Add hunky detective who dumped Blair a couple of years back because she was too high maintenance. Nobody does hot cops like Ms. Howard. It is so sad that the reality is so much less attractive. Oh well. Clever conversations, great suspence, wonderful characters (the sisters deserve a book too, Linda). By end of story Cop realizes high maintenance has its benefits.
