The Tao is usually translated as "the way" or "the path," but it is better understood as a universal life force that flows around and through all things. The &&LI&&RTao Te Ching&&L/I&&R teaches us that happiness is found in becoming one with the Tao, which enables us to live in harmony, balance, and peace and to develop the virtues of humility, moderation, and compassion.&&LBR&&R&&LBR&&RTaoism emphasizes "non-dualistic" thinking and the interconnectedness of all life. The "dualistic thinker" looks at the world and sees differences, comparisons, and contrasts. The Taoist sage knows that all such judgments depend on the person making them, not on the reality of what is being judged. Unlike theistic (God-centered) religions, Taoism does not involve prayer to a deity. Instead, Taoists meditate on the wisdom in the &&LI&&RTao Te Ching&&L/I&&R, seeking to unravel the paradoxes and understand the complexities that lie within its simple language.&&LBR&&R&&L/P&&R&&LP style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"&&R&&LSTRONG&&RYi-Ping Ong&&L/B&&R&&L/B&&R graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University and a second B.A. in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford University. Psychlogical Support.
I have found this little book to be of great benefit when looking for mantra's or beautiful sentences to use in my stress management and relaxation therapy work. The cost of this little gem was excellent and I received it extremely quickly following order. I would recommend this as something to always keep at hand.

Do read this book - if you can get it.
The Tao Te Ching is a life altering book. I like it a great deal and have owned a number of different editions. Lao Tzu's ancient wisdom is always meaningful - the illustrated edition with calligraphy and beautiful black and white pictures is especially desirable - which is why I ordered it for a friend for Christmas - (however I have yet to receive it and so had to give her mine - I do hope the replacement arrives).
My tip is that you should order more than one copy so that you will always have at least one to give away (and still have one for yourself).

Have to be ready to read
Tao Te Ching is one of those books you must want to read and not have to read. It is full of details and sometimes can make you stop reading it but you will return to it. It is a good book to keep for a long time.
