I discovered T. Jefferson Parker at the library while re-reading all of Robert Parker's novels following his untimely death.
T. Jeff writes nitty-gritty cop/crime novels, all sited in Southern California. He has a great eye for detail and creates interesting characters involved in excellent stories. Silent Joe is my favorite, but I recommend all of his novels.

One of T.Jefferson Parker's best
Joe Trona is the 24 year-old adopted son of one of Orange County's Board of Supervisors. As an infant, he had been brutally scarred with acid by his father, abandonned by his mother, and wound up living his first five years in an orphanage. Now, he works as a sheriff's deputy on jail duty by day, and as his adopted father's driver and guard and confidant by night.
When Will is gunned down, right in front of him, Joe needs to find out the truth and the killers. In doing that, he finds out more than he
expected to about his background, and also manages to find true love in spite of his scarred face. Great story!

Literary and Fun
This is a well-written novel that is also well plotted.
