The ability of government and technology to solve human problems is an empty promise according to noted author and thinker Jacques Ellul. In this book of daily readings, Ellul shows that the real answer lies in pursuing the kingdom of God. Ellul's insights will drive readers to see clearly the problems of the hurting world and get involved in helping them. This bold book is not for the fainthearted who want a safe, comfortable Christianity. Rather, it is for those who long to know what their faith should look like outside of the doors of the church. Charles Ringma's collection of Jacques Ellul's thoughts provides an interesting mix of insights from his life as a theologian, scholar, philosopher, and sociologist.

Balance
In a world of division and disintegration, we need to understand and experience the value and power of integration (integrity) and interdependence. The writings of Jacques Ellul bring insight to our human needs and if we are willing to bring discipline to the application, can be a part of the solution instead of the problem. We human beings are like a DC-10 with three engines. The mind, the emotions and the will. If we want to soar through life we need to have all three engines finely tuned and working at full capacity. Some people have a lot of information, but no compassion. Some have a lot of compassion, but no valid information as to our human needs (not wants!) And then there are those who are impulsive (just do it) without truth or compassion. We must make an honest, concentrated, decisive effort to have all three engines finely tuned! Resisting the Powers is a big step in that direction!
