"On every continent, in every nation, God is at work in and through the lives of believers. From the streets of Amsterdam to remote Pacific islands to the jungles of Ecuador and beyond, each international adventure that emerges is a dramatic episode that could be directed only by the hand of God. Engulfed in the darkness of Irian Jaya's Snow Mountains lived the Yali--canniblas who called themselves "lords of the earth." Yet in terror and bondage they served women-hating, child-despising gods, rendering fearful obedience to harsh edicts and even executing their children. Missionary Stan Dale dared to enter the domain of this Stone Age people, embarking on a fateful course that would swiftly bring him into bloody life-or-death conflict with the Yalis' "Kembu spirits and the complex religion they sustained. "Lords of the Earth" was an excellent depiction of real-life missions. As an experienced missionary, Don Richardson tells the story of Stanley Dale with grace and poignancy. Despite Dale's shortcomings, Richardson paints a picture of a man with a love for God and a passion to see lives changed for the better. Reading this book, it is exciting to see how God used the apparent weaknesses and failures in the life of a man to bring needed change to a whole people group. Though not quite as thrilling as "Peace Child" (as Mr. Richardson's eyewitness testimony on the mission field) I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in tribal peoples or missions.
