Marie Killilea's account of her cerebral palsied daughter Karen was the story of an entire family growing, encouraging, suffering and working for the independence of Karen. This is the continuing adventure, drawing in Karen' sister Gloria who struggles with her own seemingly insoluble problem. Karen's further development involves a show dog, not a sweet little miniature, but a formidable Newfoundland--actually two of them. One of the most interesting aspects of the book is the cultural setting. Today is not then, disabilities are not thought of and treated as they were, the faith community is not as it was. And Marie's writing talent is engaging as she traverses this terrain with wit and sincerity.

Wonderful Sequel
Being able to see how Karen fared as she grew up was very satisfying. I grew to love her in the previous book, and was always rooting for her. Each member of her family has a piece of my heart as well. Gloria was inspirational as she clung to her faith during trying times. All of the Killileas shall always be dear to my heart. I want my dauhgters to read both books.
