Accurate Photos & Descriptions
This is one of the best Colorado wildflower guides, and it covers an area (plains and foothills) that is usually overlooked in other guides that focus almost exclusively on mountain and alpine plants. IMPORTANT: Note that this edition is the "Newly Revised Second Edition". Dr. Guennel's own color drawings and color photos (a set of each for each species described) are clear, sharp and accurate and complement each other as to leaf and flower details. In addition to flowering herbaceous plants, Dr. Guennel has included trees, shrubs, grasses, rushes & cattails for a total of 337 species. Species that are described in his Volume 2: Mountains ("Newly Revised Second Edition") that also occur in the plains and foothills are noted at the end of each color-coded section and include a page number for Volume 2 ("Newly Revised Second Edition") where that species is illustrated and described in detail. Since some plants do not adhere to floristic boundaries, having both this book and Dr. Guennel's Volume 2 ("Newly Revised Second Edition") and using them together would be very helpful and rewarding for someone who would like to be able to easily and accurately identify Colorado native species.
