A great story line set on an island in Penobscot Bay. He captures the essence of island people and culture. He paints a beautiful word picture the island. Makes me homesick for mine.

A Wonderful Read
This is the first of Joe Coomer's books that I have read, but it will not be the last. While the story features Hannah, an artist, from her first childhood experience on Ten Acre No Nine island, she is not the only important character here. From the dog that washes up on the shore of her inherited island, the abused teenager that finds his way there, the distant half sister in trouble who arrives unbidden, a local single parent family that becomes immersed in her life, as well as the young whale that becomes stranded in the island's quarry, they are all woven into her onetime solitary life. I was immediately drawn into this book, and after only about reading 1/3 of the way into this book, I did not know what was going to happen next, but I could not wait to find out. I hated to see this story come to an end. A terrific descriptive of Maine's island way of life. I'm looking for more of Joe Coomer's books to read next.
