Seller's Description:
VG/VG dustjacket is in mylar. Exlibrary with small label at base of spine on mylar covering, ownership stamp at top text block, labels inside rear cover. Very clean copy overall. Grey cloth with white lettering; color-illustrated dj with white lettering; 335 pp. with color and bw images throughout. In response to the poor representation of women in art galleries and museums, Philadelphia-based collector, Linda Lee Alter, decided in the 1980s to focus on art by women. The result, now at the Pehhsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, is an extraordinarily diverse and powerful collection of nearly 500 objects by some of the most influential female artists of the past 50 years, including major works by Louise Bourgeois, Elizabeth Catlett, Alice Neel, Louise Nevelson and others. Alter formed her collecitno with the intent of giving it to a public institution in order to make women artists more visible. Contributors include Glenn Adamson, Linde Lee Alter, Diane Burko, Anna Chave, Joanna Gardner-Hugget, Anna Havemann, Melanie Anne Herzog, Janine Mileaf, Mey-Yen Moriuchi, Jodi Throckmorton and Michele Wallace. Includes 12 essays, the plates, checklist of Alter's collection with biographies of each artis and, a selected bibliography.
