The action centers around the title character, a twelve-year-old girl, and her family as they live in a fictional town in Ohio during the 1860's. Katy is a tomboy who liked to fight as a child, what will happen when a terrible accident makes her reconsider how she treats people? Sarah Chauncey Woolsey, who wrote under the pen name Susan Coolidge, was a prolific children's author. Coolidge is now most famous for writing the classic coming of age stories featuring Katy Carr and her family. The books are considered semi-autobiographical as Katy Carr is based off of Coolidge's childhood and Katy's siblings are based off of Coolidge's brothers and sisters.

This is one of my favorate books. I laughed out laud in some parts. And Felt like crying in others. There is a moral, (which I think a good book needs) and a bit of history. but above all that it's a good story. I could read it over and over. I recommend it for all ages. You're never to old for a good book!
