The title of my book, Chaos and Redemption may be a little unnerving at first glance. So I invite you to a second glance. My focus is simple: We live in a world that has both order and chaos in every feature and every experience. The ultimate sign of chaos is death. The title of my book, Chaos and Redemption may be a little unnerving at first glance. So I invite you to a second glance. My focus is simple: We live in a world that has both order and chaos in every feature and every experience. The ultimate sign of chaos is death. The second law of thermodynamics is "Everything winds down to a state of entropy". This means everything grows old, loses its energy, and dies. Isaac Asimov once defined life as "the ability to make an effort". He would therefore say a rock is an inanimate object. Quantum physics has taught us otherwise. The dance of wave/particles at the quantum level tells us that the universe we live in is infinitely more complex and yet, much more unified and simple than we had previously guessed. Those are some of the parameters of chaos in the creation. What is not so obvious is Redemption. In every theology, whether narrative or systematic, the central concern is redemption. What is puzzling is that theologians of all persuasions rarely define what they mean by redemption. Why should this matter to you? In Brief: How you perceive/frame your picture of the universe you live in-how you view your-self and your future-[especially if you can find hope]-these define how you will live and who you will live with. I can't think of anything more fundamental for all of us to dialogue about than what we see as an answer to the chaos that surrounds us. Chaos denies order and meaning to anyone who has not found a hope beyond the inevitable decay. Redemption is that focus where our particular lens of hope is able to bring light to darkness.
