Where Are You From? Part 2 is a family drama that explores several controversial subjects-gender, power, race, clash of cultures, trust, love, responsibility, and the nature of freedom-with both humor and pathos. Like the works of August Wilson, Where Are You From? Part 2 shows a slice of the American experience-in this case, the struggles of Julien Pikwa, an immigrant from Togo, and his interactions with his wife and her children. The play voices the frequently thorny issues of family life and how the family unit intersects with society. Julien wife, Elda, and her baby daddy, Dorkin, are constantly pressing him to take certain directions of his life the way they want him to. Elda has a constant struggle for her fate. She has pressures from her family and from Dorkin, an outsider, who eventually invade her home to face off Julien. Julien, despite his critical immigration status in the USA that necessitate the sponsorship of his wife, refuses to give in to the manipulative demands of his wife and Dorkin. He eventually dissolves his marriage and he returns to his former mistress, Zineda. Would Elda eventually be able to surrender her need to control everything (and everyone) around her?
