The first time he saw her, he ran. That was the second grade, but not much has changed by the seventh. Juli says: "My Bryce. Still walking around with my first kiss." He says: "It's been six years of strategic avoidance and social discomfort." But in the eighth grade everything gets turned upside down: just as Bryce is thinking that there's maybe more to Juli than meets the eye, she's thinking that he's not quite all he seemed. Bonus content includes: Wendelin Van Draanen on her sources of inspiration, the making of the movie of FLIPPED, and why she'll never write a sequel. This was a wonderful book, well written and energetic with a great story line. The social struggle between the Juli and Bryce was great. It was fun to see both sides of the situations that came up.
I loved the light hearted way our writer took us through a day in the life of an 8th grader, so to speak. The book has some depth and even lightly touches on some of the peer pressure and social hang ups that are life changing for a middle school student.
Being an English teacher this is definitely a book I would recommend to my clases for one of their Book report assignments.
