Most Christians have never heard of the Scottish pastor and teacher. He was born in Belford, Northumberland, Scotland and served as a minister in the Free Church of Scotland from 1843-1900. His theological studies began at Edinburg Academy and later Edinburg University graduating in 1854. He spent five years in collegiate studies and was licensed for the ministry in 1858. In 1864 he became the minister of Renfield Free Church in Glasgow with a tenure of twenty-five years. In 1889 he was appointed professor of New Testament Exegesis in New College, located in Edinburgh and later became head of the the school of theology in 1907.Much of Reverend Dods' life was spent consumed creating theological publications. Some of his works incurred the charge of unorthodoxy by the church just prior to his election to professorship at Edinburgh. He was brought before the Free Church of Scotland, but never charged. In 1891 he received an honorary doctorate degree from Edinburgh University.As you read this great work you will quickly become aware of Dods' deep devotion to Christ.
