In the middle of the 19th century, Irish folklorist Patrick Kennedy was worried that all of the Irish folklore he had learned in his childhood would be lost to time. As a result, the Dublin bookseller began to collect and preserve the old medieval tales, eventually compiling them to publish the Legendary Fictions of the Irish Celts in 1866.
