Great book for advanced Maya study
Very few people now days can count themselves amongst the ranks of knowledgeable and seasoned Mayan anthropologists. In fact, the majority of awareness and study of Mayan civilization is now reserved for contemporary courses in meso-american civilization and/or Mayan Calender. I added this book to my collection after having done some decent study into archeological based suggestions about the Mayan calendar. I can say that this book is a great resource to take someone to the next step. Although the Maya civilization had an aesthetic outlet for art like we all do, much of their art was used as foundation for all aspects of society, politics, myths and legends. The artwork of the temples and stele show that art was infused much deeper into the active consciousness and was a living part of the people. With that in mind, this book will help with a MUCH deeper understanding of the patterns and themes that have been discovered while excavating Maya ruins. This is a bit too forward for someone without some type of relationship to the world of the Maya. This is a great addition to a stack of books on Mayan civilization and prophecy.
