I have read many Vietnam books, about a war that I went out of my way not to serve in. This was among the most powerful of all the books I have read. It details the specifics that made this war such a nightmare for those that fought and how those nightmares pursued the veterans for all time. It makes the point that for all the horror they faced, the worst thing was being rejected at home and being called baby killers. And then it has a stunning ending with American and Vietnamese enemies meeting and coming to terms with their terrible battle of 48 years prior.
