In a small North Carolina town, a mysterious and beautiful woman running from her past slowly falls for a kind-hearted store owner . . . until dark secrets begin to threaten her new life. When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family. But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathetic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Fantastic Story
Nicholas hit on more than one topic when he wrote this one. I felt he hit the nail on the head so many times: Marital abuse, dirty cops, mentally ill people in places most of us would think would be safe. I was so glad Katie (Erin) found Alex and his children. I also was glad to see that this time Nicholas waited until Katie and Alex were marred before sex. It was a great mystery -- another GREAT READ BY NICHOLAS SPARKS.

Review of Safe haven by Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks is my all time favorite writer. This book is a mix between a romance and adventure novel. Most of his books are all about love and romances. Each book is different and that?s what I love about them. It shows a different love story each time. Nicholas Sparks? first published book was the notebook that was a very intense love story about two kids. That book was made into the movie The Notebook.
The beginning of this book kept me wondering why this girl had such a secretive past. I really wanted to know what Katie was hiding, if that was even her real name. She seemed really happy at where she was living now. Later in the book, where I found out why she was so secretive about her past, I realized she is a very strong person mentally. I don?t think I could ever do what she did. Katie was a courageous person. I realized how important love can be sometimes. Also, you can sometimes make mistakes while finding the person you want to live the rest of your lives with. The ending was really good and exactly how I wanted it to end. I hope everyone reads it to understand how courageous one person can be.
