Intended for students of intermediate organic chemistry, this text shows how to write a reasonable mechanism for an organic chemical transformation. Each chapter discusses common mechanistic pathways and suggests practical tips for drawing them. Worked problems are included in the discussion of each mechanism, and "common error alerts" are scattered throughout the text to warn readers about pitfalls and misconceptions that bedevil students. Each chapter is capped by a large problem set.

Grossman wrote the book for advanced undergraduates and first year graduate students. I gave it 4 stars just because I haven't read many organic chemistry books to compare well. Grossman has an ability to cover most, if not all, undergraduate organic topics and more advanced information in a very organized, and clear manner. What I like most, is that he writes down common errors to be aware and not do them. The book is light-weight, easy to read and the solution to the problems are available free online.
